fairy_tactician: (No... I can't)
Mavis woke up with a startled spasm, her body quivering against the fleshy confines of the darkness around her. She couldn't remember what happened immediately, why she was trapped in this tight smelly darkness, why she wasn't wearing any clothes, and why she felt like her whole body was burned. It wasn't until she heard the gurgle of the stomach she'd found herself in that she remembered, Gren ate her! She wasn't sure how long she was unconscious, but judging by how much her body stung, she must have been digesting in here for a few hours at least. Zera was probably worried sick about her by now, and with good reason since she might die if she didn't do something soon!

Mavis moaned as she tried to move again, her sensitive body only rubbing against the ridges of the Grendelspock's stomach lining, and turning her on all over again. This was no time for such things! She was covered in burns from his stomach acid slowly digesting her! Yet his stomach walls felt soft and soothing against her burned flesh, much like how his tongue had its magical cleaning quality. Was this some sort of magical adaptation to pacify live prey? If it was, it was clearly working! Mavis was torn between trying to bite and claw at her former friend to force her way out, and just laying back down and accepting her fate.

No! No, no, no! She couldn't give up! Zera would be all alone if she did! With a growl of protest against her own stupid libido blinding her mind to the danger, she opened her mouth and chomped on the soft stomach lining of the Geendelspock! What she didn't expect was how useless the effort was! His body seemed to be so soft and malleable that it was like trying to bite rubber. She couldn't so much as make a dent!

It did seem to at least get Gren's attention, although perhaps not in the way she was expecting. "Is that you Mavis? My, you really ARE a lively meal! I'm glad to feel you're still alive, that means I get to enjoy your company longer!"

Mavis was thoroughly dumbfounded. Enjoy her company? He ate her! After she had been kind enough to let him taste her so intimately, he betrayed her by deciding he wanted all of her, forever! Did he really have the audacity to think they were still friends after such a betrayal?! That she would want to spend a single minute conversing with him after all that!? She was about to tell him that, when the rational and tactical part of her brain screamed at her to stop! What if this really was a misunderstanding? What if he thought she wanted this, and had only been going along with it because he thought it was?

"Gren? Can you hear me?" His voice had been rather muffled, so she wasn't certain he could, but his response was quite quick.

"Of course I can. I have excellent hearing, and you had the cutest little mewls and moans while you've been in there. It almost makes me tempted to find more human girls to try eating." Those words were one of the grendelspock's biggest mistakes he'd ever made. Mavis had been close to forgiving him if he spat her out right now, but the idea of him violating other girls like this made Mavis snap!

"Gren... if you don't let me out of here right now, I swear I will kill you in the most horrifying way you can imagine." Her entire fleshy prison shuddered as the Grendelspock felt fear he had never known before. It wasn't just Mavis' words that intimidated him, it was a pair of glowing, blazing, red eyes in the darkness of the Lake's bottom. They were impossibly huge and sinister, as if a monster half the size of his lake was stalking him. He didn't dare move, lest the beast kill both of them but Mavis seemed to get only angrier.

"Did you hear me!?" At her words the gargantuan beast of the depths flaming eyes narrowed, and a razor sharp maw of teeth opened up so wide that it seemed a single tooth was larger than the tiny mage in his gut! He frantically whispered to Mavis, fearful that the monster would kill them if she didn't quiet down!

"MAVIS! MAVIS PLEASE BE AS SILENT AS POSSIBLE! THERE'S A MONSTER OUT THERE THAT'S GOING TO KILL US BOTH IF IT HEARS YOU! Mavis if anything seemed to relax when she heard this, a smug smile Gren couldn't see on her face.

"Yes I know. I summoned it. He won't hurt you as long as you take me back to land and spit me out." As if reacting to Mavis' commands, the beast closed its impossibly large maw and merely glared at the Grendelspock. Gren was not prone to human reactions, but his jaw dropped at this, causing a new series of squirming from Mavis in his stomach.

"Gren! Stop letting in so much water! I'll drown!" The red eyed beast in the dark was moving again, and that was all the motivation the grendlespock needed to hightail it out of there! He swam back to the surface and Mavis' rock, and then spat out the girl covered in a mix of bile, mucus, and other fluids. She let out a pained groan, wincing at the sunlight and all her digestion burns. She had apparently cut it a little close there, because if she'd been asleep much longer she never would have woken up. She lifted her arm and looked at the white sticky fluid dripping off of her with a measure of disgust.

"Here, let me clean you off with-" Before Gren could finish making his offer, Mavis glared at him with the same intensity of the beast from the depths.

"Don't you dare touch me after what you just did!" Gren stopped, looking quite hurt by the hatred Mavis seemed to be directing at him.

"D-Did I do something wrong?!" He thought he'd just done what she wanted!

"You were going to kill me Gren! I couldn't have thought of anything more wrong than that, until you said you were going to kill other girls too! You're not my friend! You're not anyone's friend! You nothing but a monster after all!" Those words pierced the Grendelspock's heart sharper than any blade ever could, and great big tears welled up in his eyes.

"Mavis? Please... don't say-"

"SHUT UP! JUST SHUT UP!" Tears were streaming down Mavis' cheeks as she looked at the monster that had been her only other friend on this island.

"Zera was right about you all along! How long have you been planning to eat me!? Since the day we first met? It wasn't enough that you were going to eat me, were you planning to eat Zera too!? You betrayed me Gren! I trusted you, and you used that trust to try to kill me! How many other girls have you lured into your stomach like this!? I should kill you! I SHOULD KILL YOU BEFORE YOU KILL AGAIN!" Mavis was hysterical, and the grendelspock was curled up in a ball, whimpering and crying at Mavis' rage.

She stood up, slime dripping off of her bare form, and turned her back on the grendlespock. Her magic was illusions, even if she wanted to kill him she couldn't, and despite everything he had just done? ... She still felt like he was her friend deep down in her heart.

"In honor of the friendship we once shared, even if it was just a lie you used to get close to me, I'm going to spare you Gren." She was starting to pick up her clothes and walk away, when Gren finally found the courage to try to speak again.

"Mavis! I beg of you! Please wait! I didn't-"

"NO! I DON'T WANT TO HEAR IT! I DON'T WANT TO HEAR YOU EVER AGAIN! I loved you! I let you be the first one I ever... We're through Gren. If I ever see you again, I'll kill you!" Mavis ran from the lake shore, crying her little eyes out as she ran, and Gren sank to the bottom of his lake in despair.

Days passed, weeks passed, the grendlespock went to Mavis' rock every day in the hopes that she'd come back. He'd give anything just to have her use him to clean her hair, but after the weeks turned into months, he realized she was never coming back. At first he wept when he realized this, then he remembered that she would never have come back if he'd eaten her anyways, but at least he would have ended their relationship on better terms. If she had simply stayed asleep, maybe she wouldn't have ever thought of him as a monster? Was that selfish of him? Should he just accept his fate as a monster?

He was not a creature who had been designed to contemplate, yet Mavis had unmistakably changed him. He spent the years thinking, contemplating, observing his lake and the surroundings of Tenrou Island. If he ever got another chance, he vowed he would find a way to make it up to Mavis. After so many years she probably forgot about him by now, a silly monster from the bottom of a lake that tried to eat her when she was a young girl experimenting with her sexuality. It had taken Gren a while to wrap his head around human sexuality, since he was fairly certain he was the only one of his kind, but after watching the animals of the forest over the years he was fairly certain he knew where he had made his mistakes now. Mavis had only wanted him to stimulate her back then, to use his tongue like a sexual organ for her. He'd done a little bit of that before eating her, but because she was the only one of her kind, perhaps she had felt a feeling of compatibility between them? He doubted the two of them could successfully achieve reproduction, but he suspected young Mavis had hoped he might try anyways.

He thought and pondered in his solitude, since none of the forest creatures that came to his lake seemed to match his intellect. He couldn't forget how much of a shining ray of light and hope Mavis had been in his life, yet he couldn't forget Mavis' final words to him either. It was not his place to seek her out, he would simply have to accept his fate and hope she might return someday.

It was an ordinary day at the lake like so many others. Gren was idly watching a pair of squirrels playing with a nut when suddenly... they died. He blinked in shock as he looked at the still bodies of the squirrels, and it wasn't just the squirrels, it was the grass, the tree, everything near them had died as if an evil wind had blown by and simply claimed their lives! Gren was getting ready to dive to the bottom of his lake to hide when he saw her! It was Mavis! At the epicenter of the death that had just transpired was Mavis, looking just as young and delicious as the day they'd parted! Delicious? No! He had to never think about that again!

Many things didn't make sense here, like how Mavis could look almost the exact same as she did when it had to have been decades since she left! She should be a much older human woman now, yet she was still a little girl? Why did death seem to radiate from her? Was she an evil spirit who'd come back to exact revenge upon those that had wronged her? He did not consider himself to be the bravest of creatures in the world, but be had vowed he would make it up to Mavis somehow if they ever met again. If she really was an evil spirit now, he would take responsibility and let her enact her revenge. He gulped in some water, and swam his way over to where Mavis simply stood, not moving from her circle of death.

"Mavis? Is that you?" After so long it could even be her daughter or granddaughter, but Mavis seemed to turn towards him with wide eyes. Gren stopped in his tracks when he saw the absolutely haunted look in the girl's eyes. If it was Mavis, she had utterly lost herself in something horrible that had happened to her.

"Gren? Gren the grendlespock?" Mavis laughed, not the musical laugh he once remembered she had, but a bitter defeated sound that sounded more like a mockery of the girl he once knew. "The curse of contradiction is a truly terrible thing. You're probably one of the few beings on this entire island that can safely approach me, because I don't care about whether you live or die."

She moved over to sit down on the rock where they used to have all their conversations, moss having covered quite a bit of it now. "I bet you've been quite upset that there haven't been any more delicious young girls for you to eat, eh Gren?"

Gren did not like this new Mavis. She seemed like an empty shell of the girl he used to know, but he swallowed his vitriol to try and make peace with her like he wanted to do so many years ago. "No I have not been upset by that. I had never been able to forgive myself for what happened between us that day. I didn't understand what you had wanted from me, and acted out on instinct. I had been happy that you loved me enough that you wanted to give yourself to me like that, and I would have gladly done the same for you. I missed you, not your body, not your feet, just-"

Mavis held up a hand to silence Gren, her body trembling. "Gren? If you value your life, please don't say another word. The only thing keeping you safe right now is the lingering resentment I have for you. If you make me want to forgive you, you'll probably die like anything else I care about that gets too close."

Mavis pointed to the squirrels, grass, and the withered tree. "I sinned against life itself Gren, and the curse that befalls those who do so is one of the most horrible things in the magical world. Because I learned the value of life, the lives I care about are in grave peril when I am too close. If I care too much about your life, you will die too."

The lake monster blinked in surprise at Mavis, looking at her as if seeing her for the first time. "Mavis? What happened to you? How have you stayed the same age as when you were a child?"

Mavis laughed another bitter laugh, reaching out to idly pet her former friend like he was a large cat instead of a man-eating monster. She had to keep thinking of him like that, not simply for his sake, but because she was counting on him being a man-eating monster. "It's what I've been trying to tell you Gren, I've been cursed. A very powerful curse that has made me unable to age, unable to die, and unable to live alongside those I care about. It is called the curse of contradiction, and it's why I've returned to you after all this time. First of all I do owe you an apology for the way I ended things between us. I was a child who had been young, impulsive, and scared. It wasn't entirely your fault, but I still blamed you."

Gren was about to protest that it was his fault, but Mavis fingers clamped his mouth shut. Apparently she still didn't want to hear his apologies. "Second, I came here today not because I was hoping to find you, but because I wanted to find a way to die."

That made Gren's eyes widen in shock. This from the girl who had disowned him for almost killing her before? From the girl who said she'd learned the value of life!? No... he had to remember that while she looked like a girl, she was definitely a woman now. He couldn't keep silent anymore, he had to say something! "Mavis why!? I waited so long in the hopes of seeing you again! Please don't say things like that! What about finding the fairies! What about Zera!?"

Mavis smiled a sad pitying kind of smile. "I think I understand what you've been through old friend. I've spent my last few years utterly alone, and I haven't liked it either. This life of mine is an abomination. All I can do now is the opposite of what I want, or to cause death to innocents. I'll never be able to meet the fairies Gren, because I'd probably kill them if I got too close. Zera was just a figment of my imagination, an illusion just like the monster I scared you with to set me free. Do you know why I'm telling you all this?"

Mavis slipped out of her dress in one fluid motion, revealing her petite bare body to Gren in the hopes of tempting him, just like she had so many years ago. "I want you to eat me. When I was a girl I was overcome by my own lust, and fed myself to you, but I didn't want to die. Today I've come to you with the opposite, where I want to die but I don't really want any kind of sexual release from this. Because of my curse, I'm incapable of dying in almost any way possible, but if you ate me? It's a death that scares me more than any other way of dying. That fear might be enough to let you overcome my curse, and finally put an end to my life and this curse."

Just as Mavis had hoped, Gren was licking his lips while looking at her, salivating at the thought of tasting her after all these years. To her surprise, he seemed to be stalling? "Mavis... I can't... I mean I shouldn't! Don't get me wrong, I'm very tempted! I've dreamed of how good you taste on many occasions! I just don't want to ever hurt you again! I waited so long for the chance to earn your forgiveness, I can't-"

His words were cut off by Mavis shoving her arm in his mouth as he opened and closed it to speak. DAMMIT! Why did even her arm have to taste so good!? He was already happily sucking on it while Mavis spoke.

"This is not a test Gren. I legitimately want you to consume and digest me. If you can, I won't cause anyone else anymore harm and you will finally get what you've always wanted. You want to taste me? To enjoy every inch of my body like you've always dreamed of? Then do it! Open your mouth, and let me climb inside of you!"

The Grendelspock had gained a pretty strong willpower over the extent of its lifespan, but even it could only resist so long when prey was being this willing to climb inside his mouth. He was crying, but his tongue was reaching out to taste Mavis' petite body, and drag the rest of her into his mouth. She was all too compliant, actively climbing inside of him, but what she hadn't expected was the tip of his tongue slipping up between her thighs, her labia folds, and snaking its way inside of her!

"E-EEP! G-Gren what are you-MMPH?!" She had told him that she wasn't interested in experiencing any form of sexual release?! Why was he eating her out while eating her?! She tried to protest, but Gren's tongue had wrapped around her so completely it was working like a gag! Well... she was still getting what she wanted, he was eating her and thinking of her like a piece of meat? She just hadn't expected this!

After decades in solitude, the Grendelspock was convinced he finally understood what Mavis had wanted, and he was correct. The problem is that what Mavis wanted now was quite different from what she wanted as a girl, so while she would have been thrilled to have that tongue grinding into the most sensitive part off her body as a girl, as a woman she had simply wanted to die. This sexual stimulation was making her feel very confused, emotions and feelings running through her she hadn't felt in decades at the very least! She writhed in his mouth, her little body trembling in ecstasy as he teased and stimulated her like he'd been envisioning to try to please her if he could ever make amends.

As the minutes went by, Mavis' body shuddered with more than one orgasm as she was relentlessly teased by that tongue rubbing into every intimate inch of her flesh. She was losing her mind, and could barely even remember what she was doing here! Why hadn't he swallowed her yet? Was she supposed to say something to get him to stop? Did she even want him to stop? She was actually almost starting to get into this after so long being stimulated, the slimy tongue doing things to her she'd never even imagined!

"MMmph! Mmmm... mmmm..." She tried to protest again, but her moans tampered off into almost content little mewls as he caressed her, his mouth sucking on her body, and his taste buds rubbing up against her nipples. He was enjoying this far more than he felt he had any right to, after everything that had happened between them. Every time her tiny little body shuddered with what had to be pleasure beyond what she could readily withstand, it covered his tongue in a delicious sweet fluid from her that made her taste creamier and almost melt in his mouth good! He really did want to swallow her down with how delicious she was, but he wanted to make sure she was completely satisfied first! He wanted Mavis to forgive him, and this was the only way he could think would do it!

His tongue began to stir inside her again, the back of his tongue rubbing against her taut nipples, and she let out her loudest moan yet, her voice reaching a fever pitch and then? She fainted. Apparently he'd overwhelmed her senses so thoroughly that she couldn't stay conscious anymore, and her nubile body went limp in his mouth. He sighed and began to slurp her down his throat, since that was her most adamant request she'd ever made of him other than that she never wanted to see him again. If this is what she wanted, he would honor her wish even if it might break his heart again... at least he'd get the greatest meal he'd ever had.

Her little bare feet were the last bit of her in his mouth, and her lingered on them, the cute little digits he'd sucked on so many time when she was a girl. It was nostalgic, delicious, and ultimately he knew this would be the last time he'd ever get to taste them if his guess were correct. It was a pity she was unconscious, so her little toes wouldn't wriggle or writhe on his tongue, and he couldn't tickle her, but her did give the soles one last lingering lick before he swallowed again, sending her into his stomach.

He sighed, and began to swim to the bottom of the lake to digest his old friend. He wasn't sure if she'd regain consciousness like she did when he first ate her, but a part of him certainly hoped she would. He didn't entirely like it, but he did feel physically quite good, and incredibly satisfied having devoured a meal he'd craved for so many years. There was a grim satisfaction in it despite how much he wanted to keep Mavis after everything that had happened, but he tried to comfort himself with the fact that this is what she truly wanted this time, and she did taste so good.

Minutes idly ticked by as he watched the other fish and inhabitants of the lake's depths go about their business. He could feel his stomach working on Mavis now and he was almost tempted to drift off to sleep himself. That was until he felt a hint of movement in his stomach and he heard a soft moan he recognized that caused him to grin. "Are you still alive in there Mavis?"

Mavis groaned as she rolled over in the grendelspock's stomach before replying. "Unfortunately. I can feel your stomach acid burning my flesh, so I suspect I'll probably die soon enough, but I'd rather hoped I'd stay unconscious for this part. I don't particularly want to die in horrific pain, but I'll take what I can get."

Gren winced when he heard Mavis say that. He didn't want her to suffer, but he didn't really see any way around it. She was digesting inside of him, and since she hadn't suffocated despite the thin air inside of him, she was probably not going to enjoy the next several minutes. "I'm sorry but I don't chew my food, I just swallow it whole."

Mavis simply laughed that hollow little laugh of hers again, but this time it sounded like she might be crying too? "If you had teeth, they might pierce my flesh, but then my body would repair itself anyways. The only way I can die is if I don't want to die and something kills me, and because dying like this terrifies me so much it should work. So for that I'm actually grateful you ate me as an impressionable child, creating a trauma that haunts me even now."

Gren groaned when he heard that, rolling on his back and draping his arm over his face. He didn't want to look at anything, he didn't want to hear Mavis' accusations. He just wanted to curl up and weep in regret and lament that this was the fate that was in store for the two of them. Again the minutes were ticking by and as time went by Mavis was starting to squirm even more in his stomach, whimpering in pain. Yet as the minutes turned into hours Mavis wasn't dead... he felt absolutely stuffed! Like he'd eaten three little girls instead of just Mavis, but she didn't seem to be digesting?

"AAAAAARGH!" Mavis screamed, it seemed to be partly in frustration, and partly in pain and Gren scrambled to sit up with Mavis in his stomach struggling in earnest now.

"W-What?! What is it?!" He asked the Mavis shaped lump in his stomach and the little lady was kicking and punching his stomach in her frustration, not really doing him any harm, but probably helping her vent some of her angry.

"My flesh keeps coming back! I'm nothing but an infinite snack for you! The curse is still keeping me alive!" The curse of contradiction was not so easily beaten. She hadn't wanted sexual stimulation going into this, and yet she experienced orgasms like she'd never had before. She wanted to die despite the fact that dying in this way terrified her, and she didn't want to suffer this kind of horrific pain. Instead she merely suffered the pain and didn't die! Her flesh melted off her body, only for it to grow back! This was arguably the worst hell she could choose for herself, to be eternal sustenance for Gren if he so chose to do so!

"Shall I go spit you out now Mavis?" Mavis stopped her angry struggles with a hint of surprise. She was certain that he'd decide to keep her in here. That she would spend the rest of time as nothing but an everlasting meal so that he'd never need to eat or hunt again. Then again perhaps he really had changed since she was a little girl, and did want her forgiveness? It was hard for her, because it was one of the deepest betrayals of her life, but perhaps she should finally forgive him? Then again it could simply be that he was full now after digesting so much of her flesh, and when he was hungry again he'd be eager to eat her all over again. She shuddered at that thought, slipping her fingers between her legs to where he'd stimulated her, wondering if it might actually be a fair exchange.

"Y-Yes please..." She grumbled, trying not to feel too embarrassed about what she'd just been thinking about as the lake monster swam its way back to shore. She was spat out, looking clean as a whistle, without a scar on her body despite having had her flesh melted off her bones multiple times whiel inside his stomach. She shuddered again, her mind a mess from the bizarre circumstances this curse put her under. She felt the grendelspock's tongue give her cheek a great big lick and she pushed his tongue away with a surprisingly girlish giggle like when the two of them had been friends.

"I'm sorry Mavis. I know you really wanted to die, but I'm really happy to see you're alive and well. You're the most delicious thing I could ever imagine, but I prefer to see you alive and happy than to lose you again." The froggy fish monster had its head bowed and Mavis just shook her head with a facepalm.

"You're such a dummy. If you get too close to me while I'm cursed like this, it'll kill you, you know. I guess I still haven't completely worked out all my resentment or fear I held onto for you for so long, so that's why you're still safe. Still, I think I can forgive you Gren. You're pretty smart, but you're not a human so there's probably a lot of things you didn't understand and still don't understand about humanity. Just please don't uh... do what you did with your tongue to me again? I know that's what I wanted when I was a girl, but it's pretty inappropriate." She was blushing and waving her hand as she spoke, trying to wash off some of the slime from her time inside of him before putting her clothes back on.

"You're right Mavis, I don't really understand you. You seemed to be enjoying what I was doing to you quite a lot, and then you seemed to really hate what you told me you wanted." Mavis blushed even deeper at his words and she pulled her dress over her head so he couldn't see how red in the face she was getting.

"T-That was because of the curse! I won't ask you to do that again because it's pointless! I can't die this way, and you can't kill me, so there's no point for us to interact anymore. The longer I interact with you, the more likely you are to be killed by accident by me!" She nodded, to herself deciding that this was for the best and this way she wouldn't ever be tempted to let him have a free meal of her in exchange for the naughty things he could do with his tongue!

"Mavis please... I don't care. I almost killed you several times now, so please let me at least risk my life it means you won't be alone. We can keep our distance from each other if you're scared of killing me, but please? Please let me be your friend once more?" Mavis felt a pain in her heart she had not felt in a very long time, tears streaming down her cheeks, and she laughed, wiping her eyes.

"I... I'll think about it Gren."
fairy_tactician: (Yay!)
Deep in the forest of Tenrou island, at the bottom of a lake, in a dark cavern, there lurks a creature called the grendlespock. Little is known about this creature except that it looks a bit like a cross between a catfish and a frog, it has very large eyes that allow it to see in the dark, it's amphibious, and very rare. Most people didn't even believe it exists, but one diminutive girl was about to discover this being was much more than a creature or a monster.

Mavis Vermillion was the only human inhabitant left on Tenrou island after an incident several years back when she was just a child. In spite of this fact she continued to live on Tenrou island in a relatively solitary existence. She still had the animals of the island, her illusion magic, the abandoned buildings, her books, and her imaginary friend brought to life by her own magic. Because of these things not only was Mavis able to keep her sanity in a situation that would drive most people insane, she was able to grow ane thrive.

She was a petite little lady, with long flowing blonde hair, bright green eyes, and a propensity for going barefoot everywhere she went. She simply didn't like to wear shoes, and that was probably what had lead her to meeting the grendlespock. She had been out exploring the forest one day in search for rare mushrooms, when she spotted a lake and decided to rest, and clean her feet. She had no idea that lurking beneath the murky waters a predator was lurking that spotted something it thought looked absolutely delicious, Mavis Vermillion's muddy, soaking, feet.

"EEEP!" Mavis squeaked in shock when she felt a long sticky tongue wrap around her ankle, tug her off her feet, onto her butt, and start to reel her in towards the water. She saw a large dark shadow beneath the surface of the water, and was filled with an overwhelming sense of dread about what sort of unspeakable horrors might await her if she was dragged beneath the lake's surface.

"ZEIRA! HELP!" Mavis was in a blind panic now, fearing the monster was about to tug her into its fearsome jaws, but almost as if it had heard her plea for help, the tongue let her go. A pair of large eyes poked up above the lake's surface, and widened even larger when it saw Mavis.

"You're a human? I thought they all disappeared years ago when they stopped fishing here! What are you doing here little one, and who is this friend of yours you're calling to help you? I'm sorry I scared you, I'm just hungry, and I'd never seen human feet like yours before." Mavis was slightly surprised to see that such a large beast could speak so eloquently, but she straitened herself out, and decided this had clearly all been a misunderstanding. It clearly wasn't a complete monster, because it stopped when it realized what she was, and it could have easily tried to just drag her under and drown her.

"Phew! Well thank you for being so friendly! My name is Mavis!" She sighed in relief before giving the lake dwelling creature a friendly wave. She tapped her chin in thought to consider what it had asked her, debating whether she should tell the the monster that she was one of the only humans left on the island. Perhaps it had only spared her because it knew that humans would help each other and hunt down monsters that preyed upon their own kind? She decided to risk it, because now that she was no longer caught by surprise, she was capable of fighting back with her illusion magic if she really needed to, and she'd prefer to know whether this monster was truly friendly or trying to trick her. "Actually Zeira and I are probably the only humans left on the entire island. And what do you mean that you've never seen a human with feet like mine before? My feet look pretty normal as far as I can tell."

The monster shook its large head in disbelief. "No, no, most humans have tough hoof like feet. Very cumbersome looking things, of varying shapes and colors."

It took Mavis a moment to realize what it meant, and then she laughed realizing where the confusion had come from. "OH! Shoes! Or perhaps boots? Those aren't our real feet, they're kind of like hard shells we have on our feet to protect them from getting hurt. Hehe, you know it's been such a long time since I've had anyone else to talk to besides Zeira! If you'd like to be friends that would be fantastic!"

It took a rare breed of girl to attempt to befriend a big eyed, long tongued, lake dwelling monster that had tried to eat her moments before. Indeed it seemed that the monster was just as surprised as most people would be, that Mavis was offering it friendship. Then again it might be equally baffled by the revelation that all these years it had seen humans, they had been wearing protective shells on their feet. "I don't know if I've ever had a friend before, what exactly would that entail?"

This was something that Mavis had to take a moment to consider, because she had never had to explain what friendship meant to something that might not even know what friendship would entail. "Well... it would mean we would try to talk to each other more often, share stories, do things for one another like play games or help each other when the other is in trouble. Kind of like how I was calling Zeira for help just now? If you were in trouble you could call me for help."

The lake monster's eyes widened at Mavis' words, and its voice sounded slightly choked up... which was impressive from a monster that always sounded like it was croaking. "You'd do that for a hideous monster like me?"

"You're not a hideous monster! I think you're actually pretty cute with those big eyes of yours, and those purple spots you've got all over you! If you're smart enough to be able to talk to me without trying to eat me, that means that you can't be that bad!" Mavis was certain now, that clearly this lake monster was much like herself when she was young! Alone, friendless, an outcast simply because of the conditions of its birth, and she was determined to be its friend and help it in any way she could.

"I am a grendlespock... at least that's what the wizard who created me told me I was. I ran away from him when I was very small because I overheard the wizard saying that I was a failed experiment, and he needed to get rid of me. I've lived here ever since." Once again Mavis took the large beast by surprise, this time because she had leaped into the water to impulsively wrap her arms around it in a hug.

"That's so awful! I'm so sorry that your own creator was going to discard you like that! I'm going to call you Gren, and we're going to be the best of friends from now on, okay?" She was tearing up a little, because the monster's story struck a little too close to home for her. Her heart was overcome with sympathy for the friendly beast that clearly didn't mean anyone any harm, but was ostracized simply because of how it looked.

"You're a very strange little human Mavis, but I like you."
